Alebtong is in the Northern part of Uganda. It was subdivided from Lira District and became operational in 2010. The district is boardered by Otuke in the North, Lira in the West, Dokolo in the South and Amuria in the East.

The population size is 227541 and Alebtong is mainly occupied by Langi, as well as a few Kumam and Iteso.

The language majorly spoken in the district is Lango.

Agriculture is the main economic activity with over 80% of the population engaged in subsistence farming. Crops grown include simsim, millet, sorghum, soya beans, pigeon, pea cassava, ground nuts, maize, sunflower and beans. On a very small scale, the people also practice animal rearing.
