Oyam District in the Northern part of Uganda has a population of 383,644 people majority of whom are of the Lango ethnic group. The Lango speak LebLango, a dialect that’s mutually intelligible with the Luo language. Oyam was carved out of Apac District in 2006, and it is 289.9 km from Kampala.

94.5% of households here are engaged in subsistence farming and animal rearing. Cotton, cassava, beans, pineapples and sweet potatoes are the main crops grown. Animals reared are cattle, goats, chickens and sheep.
